FASHIONABLE CAUSE: Marlon Brando’s grandson Tuki Brando has at least eight years of studies left before earning his degree in medicine, but the sometime model is happy being a bookworm for now. “I just sat my exams and everything went great,” he said at the Louis Vuitton men’s show. Brando has starred in campaigns for Versace and watch brand TechnoMarine, but he did not rule out acting one day. “Why not? I’m always open to good things,” he smiled.
Further down the row, French actor Pio Marmaï smirked when reminded of a recent article in French Elle crowning him as one of the sexiest leading men of 2012 — though he wasn’t sure about the magazine’s mention of his “hipster” beard. “I already had a beard and a plaid shirt 10 years ago,” he said. “I don’t even really know what hipster means, but it sounds a bit derogatory to me, no?” Marmaï revealed he would start shooting next month on “Le Grand Départ,” the first feature film by Nicolas Mercier, about a man coping with his father’s brain disease.
Meanwhile, Oliver Jackson-Cohen has completed “The Raven,” a fictionalized account of the last days in the life of author Edgar Allan Poe, in which the British actor plays the head of police. “It’s a high-octane, edge-of-your-seat thriller,” he said. “I’ve done quite a few big screen movies, but they haven’t ever been very good, so this is a movie I’m very proud of.” The son of British designer Betty Jackson is no stranger to the fashion world. “I wouldn’t consider myself fashionable, but I appreciate beautiful clothes, I appreciate very nice fabric. I don’t know, I think it was beaten into me, whether I liked it or not,” he quipped.
Former boy band singer turned actor Nicky Wu also has a strong appreciation for clothes. The Taiwanese-born star, who is preparing to star in a movie set during World War Two, let it be known through an interpreter that fashion was “in every detail of his job.”
